The artist kept busy himself with Berlin’s old buildings. Interestingly, this action provoked many people to join to it spontaneously. The action was followed by an exhibition in Jarmuschek + Partners gallery.

This action is interesting for us for two reasons. Firstly, the city is a permanent source of inspiration and every idea like this is interesting. Secondly, polish cities also have marks that left after war, marks ignored, remaining unvisible. We notice them only when we start a renovation or when someone like Jan Vormann, show them to us.

The artist had also contact with polish architecture. In 2007 in Lodz he presented something called a “destructive modernisation”. It was a cut mirror attached to the wall. The effect was a partial disturbing of a building’s tectonics and in a way, a tricky reference to modern, shiny elevations.

Though architecture’s form may be different, it’s idea usually remains the same – walls, floors, stairs … They may look different but remain the same and very rarely we can see architecture that breaks with this scheme.

One of such unusual projects is the Final Wooden House by Sou Fujimoto. In this case the famous triad : ‘form – function – construction’ becomes one. In this house, built of wooden beams, traditional way of thinking about architecture is rejected. Floors, ceilings, even furniture cannot be separated here. We can see an open, multi – leveled structure carved inside a cube. Generally, the process of designing includes working with levels, merging rooms in two-dimensional space. In this case, thinking about space went much further.

Anyone who has ever filmed with a free hand knows, that it is not possible to do it without shaking. The best way to avoid this, is to use a steadycam, but it’s quite expensive. There are many examples in the web on how to make your own stedycam, but there is a kind of a ready-made solution.

Of course it’s not perfect, but in some cases, it may help. Everyone who make photos or films has a tripod and now it comes in handy. The picture above explains how it works. Working with it needs a little practice.

You can also turn it upside down and film close to the floor. This solution is of course not professional and using it longer is quite tiring. Anyway, if you have enough heavy tripod and a little practice, you may achieve interesting results.

1. 100 and one faces.

Playing off the theme of a recent video contest, « Transformation : Live and React », Julien Lassort and Matthieu Burlot (France) explored the human face, the most exposed and personal part of the human body. Their dynamic portrayal of 1000 and one faces is a mosaic of portraits and emotions that plays off of the power of faces seen close up. Julien Fargo composed the melody that encapsulates the film.
